Farewell & Godspeed

The Deadbeats To Retire Corps in September 2010

After years of glorious battles against the Amarr, the happy warriors known as The Deadbeats will disband on September 7, 2010. During their time spent fighting alongside the Minmatar Militia, this corps of tax dodgers and freedom fighters destroyed over 1,500 Amarr ships and inflicted nearly 100 billion isk of damage on the Amarr Militia.

"I will always remember The Deadbeats as the best time I've spent in New Eden," said founding CEO Lao Zuki. "There are terrific memories of heart-pounding battles, side-splitting laughter, and hearty companionship - plus the satisfaction of fighting for a noble cause."

But all good things come to an end. No corps lasts forever. In this case the group was brought down by a single pilot who caused unending turmoil, internal and external, draining the energy and patience of those who managed the corporation. The decision was made to pull the plug while the memories were good and the corps was strong, rather than let the corps fester to a slow death.

Minmatar corps directors have been notified with the hope that they will recruit and hire many of the best pvp pilots the corps has to offer. Other pilots will join Minmatar warrior alliances. A few say they will head to Jovian space. Lao Zuki says he will fly out to the original stargate to see if he can pass through to the other side.

"Our efforts to defeat the Amarr could not have been realized without the support of many friends in Minmatar and Gallente space," said Zuki. "We will always be grateful. Your memories will live with us forever."

Farewell and Godspeed!

Fight Club Follies Halted

Deadbeat CEO Bans Planned Amarr Fights

Following the publication of an investigative report of prearranged fights between Amarr and Minmatar Fleet Commanders, Deadbeat CEO Lao Zuki has issued a policy statement which bans the practice in corporation fleets.

The new policy also encourages corps members to drop from militia fleets if a prearranged fight with the Amarr is announced. And as of September 1, the corps will no longer reimburse any ships lost in a prearranged fight with the Amarr.

The report by Deadbeat director Chebri found that Minmatar fleets were being needlessly slaughtered, in overwhelming proportions, when Fleet Commanders arranged a fight with the Amarr, usually revealing the militia fleet size and composition.

In one prearranged fight with the Amarr on August 7, planned by Neu Bastion, formerly a member of the Valklear Guard, the Minmatar Militia lost 22 ships and destroyed only 8. The Amarr FC was Predator Elite, who had a private convo with Neu Bastion, who in turn disclosed the Minmatar fleet composition and asked the Amarr not to bring remote reps.

In another prearranged fight with the Amarr on August 21, planned by Num Killer of the Filthy Franchise, the Minmatar Militia lost 18 ships and destroyed only 2. Again, the Amarr FC was Predator Elite, who had a private convo with Num Killer, who in turn arranged the battle so the Minmatar would bring 5 battle cruisers and the Amarr would bring 16. Apparently no one noticed that this new Minmatar FC was straight out of the Amarr Ministry of War.

Similar disastrous results have been reported from plex operating fleets in Metropolis. And pilot reaction to prearranged fights with the Amarr has been critical at best.

"It is no secret that many militia pilots give lip service to the Minmatar cause in order to enjoy some swashbuckling fun," said Deadbeat pilot Hustle Fighter. "This type of opportunism is not the issue - we welcome all the guns we can get. The problem is when kill board greed clouds our judgment and we start making deals with the Amarr - a race which has based its empire on slavery, religious fascism, and divine imperialism. You simply do not make deals with the Amarr."

Other reactions were much more visceral.

"I refuse to even say 'Good Fight' to the wretched Amarr in Local Chat," said Deadbeat pilot Spike Diesel. "A 'GF' is something you signal to a worthy opponent, to an honorable warrior, to someone who shares your values. But the Amarr absolutely do not share our values. What kind of person flies with the Amarr? What sort of pilot endorses slavery and religious fanaticism? These kids are the modern version of Hitler Youth. You do not negotiate with them, or appease them, or make deals with them, and you certainly do not plan prearranged fights with them!"

The new corps policy directive becomes effective September 1, which gives time for militia diplomats to absorb and understand the corporate position. After that date, Deadbeat pilots are urged to discretely leave militia fleets in which a prearranged fight has been announced, and pilots must not cause dissent over the issue in fleet chat. Pilots who are challenged by militia members about this policy are to refer critics to corps directors.

Prearranged fights and tournaments with all other factions and organizations is permitted, at the pilot's risk and expense.

"We need to pause to remember why we fight the Amarr," said Lao Zuki. "Slavery, religious totalitarianism, the divine right of kings - these are the great evils of humanity that date back to the dawn of civilization and are manifest today in the Amarr. We fight this evil not for kill board stats or fight club fun, we fight for our brothers, we fight from urgent necessity, we fight because no one else will. We fight because our cause is just - and we will prevail."

From the Ashes, Damu'Khonde Rises

Hydra Booted, Razor Spanked in Providence

Only days after a disgruntled director engineered an underhanded takeover of the Ushra'Khan [U'K], former members of the Minmatar alliance, working with a coalition of local allies, took back all the systems and outposts in Providence which had been illegally acquired by the pirate alliance Hydra Reloaded.

As of July 31, 2010, the old Unity Station in 9UY4-H had re-opened its doors, and members of The Deadbeats were able to again dock and gain access to their ships and supplies. The outpost in KBP7-G, while liberated, remains closed as of August 1, but sources indicate it should be available again within a week.

The liberation of KBP7-G was accomplished in part due to the battles fought by Agony Unleashed, who at one point used 14 battleships off the KBP gate in XHQ-7V to destroy a Razor fleet of over 50 ships, mostly armored HACs. In this engagement, the Razor fleet landed right on top of the Agony battleships - which happened to be all smart-bomb fitted. Sixteen seconds later, the Agony disco crew had destroyed 3.82 billion of Razor isk, losing only four ships in the engagement. A highlight reel of the allied victory was just released on YouTube.

It is not known whether Razor was working in cooperation with Hydra in Providence, or just taking advantage of the instability in the region. Regardless of their motives, this roving gang of rascals may think twice before making a return visit.

As the dust settles in Providence, the former corps of the U'K have re-emerged as a new Minmatar warrior alliance, which shall be known as the Damu'Khonde. Their new ticker will be [USHRA].

The name of the reborn alliance means "Bloody Fist" in Swahili, and it echoes the iconic symbol and ideology of the former Ushra'Khan. Now, the warriors of the Damu'Khonde, organized under a new flag, will continue the struggle against the Amarr, and their slaver puppets and pirates cohorts.

The nascent alliance of freedom fighters is rapidly organizing, sorting out the leadership structure, setting standings, making new diplomatic connections, and tackling thorny issues such regional rules of engagement (currently NBSI). Insiders say formal statements from the new alliance will be posted shortly. The Deadbeats were promptly granted mutual blue status with the Damu'Khonde, reflecting our long friendship and allegiance to the Ushra'Khan.

"Game mechanics can be abused," said Littlest Hobo pilot Butter Dog, referring to the midnight betrayal by the director who handed the U'K over to Hydra, "but our membership is the one thing that no spy or traitor can take from us. We were Ushra'Khan. And now we will be Damu'Khonde. And under this new banner, same as ever, we will come for our people."

Providence Burns Once More

Hydra Traitor Engineers Ushra'Khan Coup

As of downtime on July 24th, 2010, all fifteen active corporations in the Ushra'Khan [U'K] were expelled from the ancient and venerable Minmatar alliance by a disgruntled director in the U'K's executor corporation. Using legal, but underhanded 'midnight voting' techniques, the stealthy takeover took all alliance members by surprise.

The Ushra'Khan organization and assets, including all of its systems and outposts in Providence, were then handed over to the pirate alliance Hydra Reloaded.

The traitor who conducted the silent coup boasted to the press that the meta-gaming treachery was conducted for money and a prominent position in the Hydra organization. Others allege he has "emotional issues."

Ugleb, a Brutor tribalist of the Sarz'na Khumatari and former U'K member told the ISD: "As of now, the Ushra'Khan is under hostile control and considered lost."

The reaction across New Eden was one of condemnation.

"Shame, shame, shame, Hydra," said Deadbeat pilot Hustle Fighter in the Eve Forums. "You couldn't do it by fighting, so you infiltrated and pulled a meta-game take over. How classless."

Even Amarr pilots have spoken against the Hydra treachery.

"I fought against the U'K in the first war in Providence," said Amarr Militia pilot Doctor Scarblood, "but I respect them as warriors. This is no way for an honorable alliance to end. For this, Hydra will be remembered as despicable and cowardly."

Many of the former U'K corps promptly joined the Circle-Of-Two [CO2] alliance, and vowed to retake Providence.

The Deadbeats have offered support and have now set U'K and Hydra to red, and set CO2, Daisho Syndicate [DAI], Important Internet Spaceship League [BDEAL], and their allies to blue for the duration of this latest war in Providence.

This new coalition wasted no time making the first move against Hydra. On July 27, an allied armada locked down KBP7-G, and over 80 ships were destroyed in the first hour. The system was made Vulnerable and Hydra's Frontline Fortress outpost was knocked into reinforced mode at 23:00 Eve Time.

While The Deadbeats were taking pot shots at Hydra pilots during this first engagement in Providence, the level of involvement of the Minmatar Militia as a whole is uncertain. The initial response to the U'K takeover within one prominent Militia channel was ambivalent at best, with one young pilot saying, "The U'K got what they deserved." And another saying, "We want pew-pew in Providence, not friends."

Militia involvement is further complicated by standings mechanics; the friendly alliances in Providence cannot set the Militia as an entity to blue, and setting standings to dozens of small militia corps is not practical.

But whatever the obstacles, many Militia corps have pledged to fight. "ROSS and our friends in Public ROSS are ready to assist," declared ROSS CEO Captain Vaguy in the Unity Forums.

"Our corps is also committed to helping our old friends and allies of the former Ushra'Khan," echoed Deadbeat CEO Lao Zuki. "We know many pilots offer lip service to the struggle for freedom in order to have fun fights in the Militia, but we're in it because the cause endures - and the dream will never die."
